Grover House is located in the heart of Caldwell’s Central Business District. Originally a bank built in 1915, Grover House was transformed into bespoke retail and office space in 2018. The renovation kept the beautiful architectural bones honoring the building’s history while creating modern professional spaces for our tenants. The common areas function as a community art gallery on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. Grover House is part of the Bravitas Group.
Paula Stark: Celebrating Process and Place
Paula Stark’s contribution to This is Now focuses on the tactile and meditative process of creating art. “Recently, I find myself focusing on ‘how’ I make my art,” Stark states. “I think about the materials I’ve chosen — oil paint, wax, collage, and cyanotype — and the physicality of my media, so different from the trend toward keyboard & screen.”
Stark’s vibrant landscapes are animated by color, evoking a profound sense of place and capturing fleeting moments of natural beauty. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows across the United States, and her artistic achievements have been lauded in The New York Times, ArtNews, and The Artist’s Magazine. Stark has received grants from prestigious organizations such as The
Helena Rubinstein Foundation and The MacDowell Colony.
Stark holds a Master’s in Painting from Parsons School of Design in New York City and a BFA from The University of New Hampshire. The Grover House Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm., and is dedicated to showcasing innovative contemporary art in Caldwell, NJ. The gallery seeks to foster a deeper connection between artists and the community through thoughtfully curated exhibitions.
Linda Ippolito: Exploring New Media, Evoking New Landscapes
Of the 24 pieces in the exhibition, Ippolito introduces nine new works in an unexpected medium: watercolors. “What they share with the rest of my work going back in time is the construct: a landscape,” says Ippolito. “I am drawn to landscapes because they invite exploration. The exploration of inner and outer landscapes is what I think art is all about, and when the medium is new, it brings a needed sense of renewal.”
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ippolito is a graduate of Pratt Institute. Her work has been exhibited in numerous New York and New Jersey galleries. In addition to her expertise in fine arts, she has studied the culinary arts at prestigious institutions in both the U.S. and France. Ippolito’s ability to seamlessly blend various media while maintaining a cohesive vision creates a multi-sensory journey for her viewers.
